Laser Blended Vision for the Ageing Eye. Perfect eyesight after the age of 45.
Everyone’s vision deteriorates as they get older. Around 50 years of age, everyone needs reading glasses, or a different prescription for close-up and long-distance vision. This phenomenon is called presbyopia. People who already have a prescription for long-distance vision begin to need varifocal or bifocal eye glasses for close-up vision.
At PMP Synskirurgi, we developed a revolutionary treatment for presbyopia called Laser Blended Vision.
an innovative treatment for ageing eyes
Exclusively available in Norway at PMP Lasik Surgery
Exclusively available in Norway at PMP Synskirurgi, Laser Blended Vision is an innovative treatment for ageing eyes.
Presbyopia literally translates to “old eye”. Unfortunately, ageing affects the eye just as it affects every other part of the body. Starting in early middle age, the lens inside the eye begins to lose its ability to change shape when “zooming” back and forth from distant to near objects.
We cannot avoid ageing, nobody is immune from developing presbyopia. If left unchecked, presbyopia will inevitably encourage the need for reading glasses – bifocals or varifocals.
After Laser Blended Vision, 92% of our patients never wear any form of glasses. Only 4% report that they use basic reading glasses (+1 off-the-shelf readers) for special close-up work. Typical examples are embroidery, fly tying, model plane building, or other work that requires an exceptionally short working distance of less than 40 cm. The remaining 4% report that they sometimes use simple reading glasses (+1 off-the-shelf readers) for tasks in low light, but have no need for reading glasses in normal light situations.
How Does Laser Blended Vision Work?
Laser Blended Vision is a treatment pioneered by Professor Dan Reinstein at The London Vision Clinic, in conjunction with Carl Zeiss Meditec, and brought to Norway by Dr. Petter Montagu-Pettersen. Laser Blended Vision will significantly reduce, or even eliminate, the need for reading glasses, bifocals, or varifocals for many years. Dr. Petter Montagu-Pettersen added Laser Blended Vision to PMP Synskirurgi’s list of available treatments in Norway in 2014, after several years of research, improvements, and visits to The London Vision Clinic.
Thousands of patients have already benefited from this remarkable treatment, which PMP Synskirurgi began offering to the Norwegian public in 2014. The therapy is also suitable for people with high prescriptions.
You may have heard that LASIK Laser Eye Surgery cannot correct reading vision, near vision, or the effects of ageing on the eye. It is a very common misconception that presbyopia is only remediable by a much more invasive procedure of surgically implanting a lens inside the eye.
However, this information is significantly out of date. Over 10 years ago, London Vision Clinic’s medical director, Professor Reinstein, pioneered a method of increasing the depth of field of the eye, using a revolutionary Laser Eye Surgery technique.
Laser Blended Vision has major advantages over intraocular lens implants (IOLs). Firstly, it is a significantly less invasive and therefore a safer procedure. Secondly, it does not require the same compromises as IOLs, where multifocal IOLs can affect the quality of the vision negatively. Thirdly, it is very accurate and easily adjustable as the eye gets older.
Laser Blended Vision is suitable for around 97% of ageing eyes, while only around 60% of people can tolerate monovision, an alternative solution for presbyopia, which uses contact lenses or older laser systems. Laser Blended Vision was adopted by Carl Zeiss Meditec and programmed into their last generation Lasers, Zeiss MEL 90. Now, clinics around the world who use the Zeiss MEL 90 are able to offer the option of Laser Blended Vision.
Safety and precision in modern eye laser treatment
Every day, at PMP Lasik Surgery, we treat 3 to 4 new patients with different vision defects. The results are very good and the complication rate very low. None of our patients have become blind or had serious complications. Watch the video to see how an eye operation works (in Norwegian).
The Key Advantages of Laser Blended Vision:
Laser Blended Vision adjusts each eye in slightly different ways: one eye is modified to see mostly at a distance, and a little at close-up, while the other is the opposite: mostly up-close, and a little at a distance.
The brain compensates for this change almost instantly, combining the two images to give much greater depth of vision, and an all-round improvement in visual acuity. This means that most of our patients can throw away those infuriating reading glasses or varifocals!
- Over 98% of Laser Blended Vision patients can read normal newsprint (‘N8’).
- Over 90% of Laser Blended Vision patients can read the small print on medicine bottle inserts.
Laser Blended Vision versus Monovision and IOLs (RLE Multifocal Lens Implants):
Laser Blended Vision is much more effective and adaptable than monovision, in addition to being significantly less invasive and therefore safer than solutions which use IOLs (RLE Multifocal lens implants). Monovision uses contact lenses or older laser systems to focus one eye on closeness and the other on distance. These earlier systems are far less sophisticated and unsuitable for most patients.
Laser Blended Vision not only minimises the risks and compromises necessitated by IOLs and monovision, but studies show it is suitable for nearly everybody. While we may not yet be able to halt the ageing process completely, our patients can face aging without the discomfort and inconveniences of deteriorating eyesight.

Now it is 1 day since I walked through the doors of PMP with minus 7, crooked corneas and in addition I had the age supplement so I did not see anything up close. Now my vision is superb, both near and far, and I have no problems or pain with the eyes ... fantastic !!!
