PMP Lasik Surgery, specialist in eye diseases

Laser treatment of visual defects, both complicated and common.

With today’s medical equipment, it is quite possible to correct large vision errors as well as common vision errors. In many cases, a laser treatment can provide significantly better vision than you can get with glasses or contact lenses. We have treated myopia eyes up to -18 with great results. Higher vision error than this occurs very rarely. Furthermore, we also offer FS LASIK treatment for major long-sightedness up to +8 and corneal bias up to -6.

Femto Second LASIK

Femto Second Lasik is an alternative to glasses and contact lenses for people between the ages of 18 and 45.

Presbyond LASIK

Age-adjusted laser treatment that gives good eyesight at all distances without glasses for people over the age of 45.

Eye Doctor´s Appointment

Dr. Petter Montagu-Pettersen also runs a private general ophthalmology practice. You can book an appointment and check up on eye disorders of any kind.

Alternative to contact lenses, glasses and varifocal eye glasses.

Which Laser Treatment should you choose?

At PMP Lasik Surgery, there is no right or wrong age to have the LASIK procedure done. This is because we have a low threshold and low cost upgrade program between the slightly different needs eyes have from a young adult to a mature person. We offer a good solution for all age groups.

For 18-45 year-olds, we recommend treatment of both eyes for so-called Emmetropia. That means excellent vision at distance for both eyes. The physiological internal lens that all human beings in this age bracket have is soft and flexible, meaning the emmetropic eye also has excellent visual acuity close-up. We call this treatment FS LASIK. It is easy to upgrade an FS LASIK procedure to Presbylight or Presbyond LBV later in life, when presbyopia sets in.

For 45-50 year-olds, we strongly recommend a “light version” of Laser blended vision, which we call “Presbylight”. We treat your dominant eye to emmetropia, clear vision at a distance, and your non-dominant eye to -0,75, moderate short-sightedness. This results in excellent vision at all distances for several years, with very little to no perceivable side-effects from having a slightly short-sighted non-dominant eye.

For those who are 50+ years old, we recommend the full version of Laser Blended Vision. We treat your dominant eye to emmetropia and your non-dominant eye to -1,75. This combination will virtually eliminate the need for reading glasses or varifocal glasses.

A safe an comfortable experience

This is the treatment – in short

Millions of people have had Laser Eye Surgery. It is one of the most popular forms of elective surgery. The most common form of Laser Eye Surgery treatment is LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis).

LASIK corrects short-sightedness, far-sightedness, astigmatism, and presbyopia, the need for reading glasses or varifocal glasses.

The LASIK procedure reshapes the cornea to enable light entering the eye to be properly focused onto the retina for clearer vision.

LASIK surgery is essentially pain-free and takes only about one minute for each eye. The treatment results in significantly improved vision without eyeglasses or contact lenses and begins to take effect immediately after the procedure. Vision usually continues to improve and stabilize over the next few days. All our patients remain at the clinic for 3 hours after the procedure. Patients can rest comfortably with their eyes shut, in reclining chairs with ambient light and calm music. Before leaving the clinic, the surgeon will examine the patient’s eyes and conduct a vision test. Patients will often have achieved 20/20 visual acuity by the time they are ready to leave the clinic.

Good to know about the treatment – part 1:

Practical information before the treatment

Contact lenses

Preferably remove the contact lenses the night before preliminary examination and the evening before surgery.

Wearing contact lenses during the night and the hours just before preliminary examination may affect the results we use to program the laser with and may give result in unintended inaccuracies.

The same applies on the day of surgery. Contact lenses used until the laser surgery can change the fluid levels of the cornea and result in uninteded inaccuracies in the laser treatment.

Pre-examination / Consultation

The pre-examination will take just under 1 hour and consists of a series of measurements of your eyes as well as conversations about the expected result and possible risks depending on the state of your eyes. If eye diseases should be detected, this will be addressed and necessary measures taken.

After the preliminary examination, we thoroughly go through the procedure for the treatment, how to deal with the aftermath and how to drip the eye drops you take with you after the treatment. You will also receive this information in writing and once again on the day of surgery together with nurse Anne Paust-Andersen.

The preliminary examination costs 870, – but this sum is refundable if you choose to be laser-operated with us.

The day of the surgery

What to expect

When you arrive at the clinic on the day of surgery, you will receive repeated information about the operation as well as a checkup of your eyes and the opportunity to ask your doctor any questions. You will be offered a mildly sedative pill, rest for a short while and have a cup of coffee. You will be well sedated with eye drops as you enter the operating room.

You cannot drive home yourself after the surgery due to the medications you have received, and are somewhat sensitive to light for another few hours after the operation.

The surgery

Follow your doctor’s instructions on where to focus. After anesthesia, your doctor puts on an eyelid holder that holds the eyelids up during laser treatment. It is important to avoid squeezing hard against the eyelid holder and trying to be as relaxed as possible in the neck, shoulders and facial muscles. In that way it will be significantly easier for you to look straight up at the laser. The laser beam provides the most accurate treatment when it hits the eye surface as perpendicularly as possible, even though the laser has a very advanced eye tracker.

After the surgery

Straight after the surgery

All our patients remain at the clinic for 3 hours after the procedure. Patients can rest comfortably with their eyes shut, in reclining chairs with ambient light and calm music. Before leaving the clinic, the surgeon will examine the patient’s eyes and conduct a vision test. Patients will often have achieved 20/20 visual acuity by the time they are ready to leave the clinic.

When in the recliner your eyes are checked by the eye doctor and dripped with eye drops before you can go home. After the surgery the eyes might feel sore, and you might experience some tears and watery eyes. This is completely normal. After the 3 hours have passed, the discomfort diminishes considerably and most people already experience clear and fine vision, but a certain haze that lasts through the evening after the surgery is common. Aslo, the eyes are often a little red and slightly irritated until the next morning. The next day you can drive and operate normally.

The weeks after the surgery

Avoid rubbing your eyes hard for the first few weeks after surgery.

Be careful with swimming and sports where you risk getting hit / ball in the eye for the first few weeks.

Use the eye drops you get from us. They should be dripped four times daily in both eyes for a week to prevent infection.

Post-surgery check-ups after laser surgery with us are included in the surgery fee.

We have many satisfied clients!

Anne K Egeland

Now it is 1 day since I walked through the doors of PMP with minus 7, crooked corneas and in addition I had the age supplement so I did not see anything up close. Now my vision is superb, both near and far, and I have no problems or pain with the eyes ... fantastic !!!
